LO4 - Progression of Edits - 1 & 2





This is the first draft of our music video for the song 'What's he come as' by The Mayfairs.

I feel like the video so far looks appealing and doesn't look plain and boring. I think the editing and the footage fit along with the song. We were looking to make it look like and indie music video so we analysed a decent amount of videos to understand a set of techniques.





This is the second edit draft  of the song 'Whats he come as', we have added more clips to the edit, some relating to a live performance and some relating to the narrative. We have some footage from the gig in the O2 academy in Sheffield which is the live performance, the clips we have got fit really well with the songs, the lighting and colours fit in with the mood of the song, we have carried on pastiching the other music videos by adding some ghosting affects to the live performances.

One thing that we could improve the music video with could be when the song goes slow and the singer goes really deep toned we could slow the video down to fit in with the mood of this section within the song.

LO2 - Actors request email

Hello
My names Alex Harrison I am a CDM student of UTC Sheffield. I have received your contact details via Miss Edwards.
As apart of my Audio-visual unit,  I will be making a music video for local indie band 'The Mayfairs'. I was wondering if you have any actors willing to participate in the narrative section of the music video.

We are looking for a male,  18-21 years old, male, roughly around 6ft give or take a few inches, white British ethnicity.

The idea for this film is based on the song 'what's he come as' by 'The Mayfairs' (songs not been released yet) where its about a guy who goes to a lot of different pubs and get neglected and criticised for being who he is, but is mainly targeted at the fact that he dresses differently (what's he come as). When he arrives at  the pub called 'The Rocking Chair'  where' The Mayfairs' are playing he is then accepted in even though he's different.

Please let me know if you have any actors that meet these requires.

LO2: Media Pitch

What are you making?

  • We are creating a music video for the Mayfairs song What's He Come As?
  • This will be part of the indie music genre and our video will try to match the conventions of the genre.


What is your product about?

  • The music video will denote a guy who gets ridiculed for his dress sense. 
  • He walks around streets and pubs trying to fit in but everyone stares and makes comments.
  • Eventually, he finds the Mayfairs and their fans, and is welcomed and ends up at the performance of the gig.


Which music videos do you want to pastiche?

  • We would like to pastiche videos such as Teddy Picker and Gunga din for the walking along street shots. This is as it is stereotypical to the genre. 
  • We would like to replicate the ghost/anaglyph effect seen in the performance video of Kathleen.

Strengths and Improvements

Our pitch had some strong points and also some improvements to be made, our reviewers gave us this feedback.

The narrative has a strong link with the lyrics and the music genre. They all link in together with the Indie genre.

The story line of going round pubs in a town centre works well with all the locations we have chosen.

We have been given a series of different improvements to make that people think may improve the overall product.

Try adding more effects to the video to make it look like other Indie music videos.

Make the start of the video less linear, don't follow a set time, spread it out.




 

LO2: Treatment

A treatment is the planning of a production and an outline of what you have to do. It can also be used for financial funding as you can give it to someone who you think will be interested in the production and they can also understand what is going on.


The Brief:
We have to produce a new music video that promotes The Mayfairs. The video and the footage that we produce must be original. Additionally, the use of music must be original and with the correct permissions given by the copyright holder.

Target Audience:
Fans of the Indie Genre and enjoy local music. It is a very Niche target audience of ages ranging from 16-24. 60% male audience,
Segment Synopsis and how it Relates to the Brief:
It will include clips from a live performance at a gig, as well as clips from the band recording their song in a studio. Band practise shots as well. Jump shots between these three scenes and a separate narrative. The narrative will be based around a man, who is clearly quite a social out cast as he his often mocked for what he wears, hence the title. A man is being mocked for his anachronistic fashion and he is telling the people, he doesn't wanna know them and he doesn't want them to know him, he doesn't care about them and doesn't want them to care about him. He is happy with his style
and he won't listen to anyone, however he seems to always end up on the wrong end of people. However, the Mayfairs take him in and accept him for who he wants to be, as he ends up at the gig and really enjoys their music. Because he is a social outcast, we will show his social struggles by presenting his hardships throughout the day, for example: When he goes to pubs people are clearly staring and mocking him behind his back, kids on the street make fun of him to his face as they don't respect his authority, cars stopping as the drivers are clearly shocked by his style, he has a flip phone from ages ago but people around him have very modern

Health And Safety Considerations
-Wires tripping hazard - Making sure we are vigilant in the environment.
- Equipment theft. - Make sure equipment is never unattended          
- Weather conditions - Damage to equipment.
- Road safety when filming on the streets.
- Suburban or run down areas having needles and other drugs on the floor.
- Emergancy contact numbers.


For every location we must complete:
 - Location recce forms. This is the form that will analyse the location whether it is suitable to film in.
 - Take phorographic evidence that we have been to the location as we can also use it to analyse it at a later date and also using it with the storyboards.
 - A risk assessment is a form which is used to asses the risks of the location and how to avoid any hazards.
- Having emergancy contacts who know where you are and what you're doing


The watershed is time sets where you can display more mature content on TV after 21:00pm and before 05:30am as children are deemed to be asleep at this time so the older audiences will be watching tv. Our music video will be aired on channels such as 4Music and Kerrang MTV etc, channels where there is indie/rock music but not heavy rock music. 

Legal, ethical, scheduling and certification:
We must seek permission from the band in order to gain copyright permission to use their music. If we don't then we are breaking the law and could essentially get sued.


Distribution
We will be releasing our video on YouTube because it is a very well known, free and accessible too all users. It is also very popular with our target audience ensuring distribution is as successful as possible. Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram can provide free promotion and advertisement that is very accessible to the younger generation, which is our target audience. It also allows fans to get more included with the band member's lives which they will enjoy having and thus lead them to view the music more. Soundcloud is also an online, free service which allows us to upload the audio, and if people hear the audio, they may want to check out the video on YouTube. Spotify may not be a free service, but it is immensely popular so getting even a low level of publicity on Spotify could lead to a lot more people at least hearing the song, which due to the comedic name, will incline more people to check out our video. Audiences seeing the band at live performances at gigs around Sheffield could lead to the band getting more publicity, so for example, The Mayfairs could support one of the many constant supply of artists performing at The Plug near the City Centre which would get them a lot more attention so it will be promoting the song and therefore the video. Getting the right attention on popular magazines such as 'NME' and 'Kerrang!' have all the weekly buyers seeing The Mayfairs stuff getting them more well known to a similar rock band culture. TV channels such as 4Music will also help if they end up playing the song, many other people will see the song and the video from a whole other culture.
